A Journey begins

SCROLL TO THE VERY BOTTOM FOR A GUIDE ON SETTING UP YOUR A2 BLOG. YOU MUST FOLLOW THE VERY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS.

WHAT TO INCLUDE:

GENERAL POINT: For ALL long posts, start with an IN THIS POST header that provides an ordered bullet list of whats contained. Pick a style + replicate it across your blog, eg -

IN THIS POST: OR IN THIS POST:

  1. INTRODUCING...ME!
  2. THE BRIEF + POST LIST
  3. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
  4. MY INITIAL SCHEDULE
  5. ASSESSING PAST COURSEWORK
  6. FINAL THOUGHTS

1: Without using your full name, introduce yourself:

  • sum up your media interests, experience (incl. radio) + aspirations
  • your key strengths and what skills you most want to develop this year
  • reflect on the successes and failures of AS, especially on what lessons you will apply this year
  • your earliest (probably v vague) thoughts on what you might do this year (eg SFX you'll work on, possible genre/s or artist)
  • include your AS final cut

As a means of keeping your editing skills (and therefore speed) sharp, this would be best as a single voiceover video, but include any relevant URLs (eg AS blog, specific Ara shows, independent productions, playlist of your videos).

2: The brief + post list

State the specific brief, then list the posts your blog will include.

THE BRIEF - music promotion package
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music video (major task), together with an official social media page for the band or artiste(s) and a digipak for the album’s release (minor tasks).
NOTE: this has changed from previous years where there was a website (now social media).

NOTE ON WORKING IN A GROUP

Any groups will face regular review; if any group member has not been consistently making an equal individual contribution, or is failing to be reliable, this group member will be removed and will re-start at any stage to work alone. Any and all group work MUST include clear and specific detail of each individual's contribution - see the exam board guidance below:
The work may be undertaken individually or by a group (maximum group size is four candidates). Candidates must present the evidence for assessment individually, whether they have worked in a group or individually. Centres must assess candidates on an individual basis. Each candidate’s blog should clearly indicate the candidate’s own role in any group activity to allow the teacher to assess the contribution of each individual within the group.

3: The assessment criteria

So it's always at hand. This would be best as a slideshare (landscape) Word doc which can be made fullscreen. The exam board have completely rewritten the criteria for 2021 while retaining the same basic 3 AOs (assessment objectives) overall.
It would help you if you created your own cutdown version of this, noting key phrases etc.

4: My initial schedule

We'll go over this in early September, with multiple specific deadlines, BUT you should include individual, independent targets for June, July and August, whether big or small in their ambition and scope.

5: Assessing past coursework

This tends to be invaluable, but students look at these in September, then forget what tips they picked up until the last minute. You can learn a lot, and get a load of great ideas by looking at these - almost all have received high A grades. Embed the playlist linked on my blog hub + either do a vid or Ppt making clearly illustrated points. Begin to showcase your grasp of media language, now 1 of 4 main criteria worth 15/50 marks. Bold+pink to highlight becomes ever more important now.

6: Final thoughts

A brief, brisk summary of key points from above.
